Frequently asked questions

Concussion & Vestibular Physiotherapy FAQ

What does vestibular physiotherapy treat?

It focuses on dizziness, vertigo, balance and motion-related symptoms when assessment suggests the vestibular system or related sensory systems are involved.

What is BPPV?

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is a common cause of brief spinning triggered by certain head positions. Positional testing can help determine whether BPPV is present.

Can physiotherapy help after concussion?

Physiotherapy may help when concussion symptoms involve the neck, balance, vestibular function, exercise tolerance or return-to-activity progression.

Will dizziness be deliberately triggered during assessment?

Some tests may briefly reproduce symptoms because that helps identify the cause. The physiotherapist should explain each test and work within safe limits.

When should dizziness be medically assessed first?

Sudden severe or unusual neurological symptoms, new weakness, difficulty speaking, chest pain, fainting or other concerning signs require urgent medical assessment rather than routine physiotherapy.
